VirtualPrinter UII+ 3.10(11c)
I need some advice to the Virtual Printer device please:
Every time I try to printout a source code listing, the cartridge „freezes“ or lets say the "middle button“ stops working.
For example:
Load“basic source code“,8 Open4,4:cmd4:list ….. the upper right LED turns on green for some second and the it goes off. Print#4:close4 ….. the upper right LED turns on green again, but never goes off and the „menu Button“ is not working (but the freeze and reset button do work!)
No printer.png will be created
What is the configured output path for your virtual printer? Does this path exist? (Eg: does it uses USB0 but no USB key is inserted in USB0 port). The virtual printer can’t handle non existing paths, this is a known limitation.
Hi !
Attached to usb0 is a 16GB stick, path was /usb0/printer. Meanwhile I played around a little bit with this and after reflashing the firmware it changed a little bit its behaviour.
I have changed the path to /Flash/printer (to ensure that the issue comes not from my usb stick) and the ID to 5 but mostly with the same result.
Load"source",8 open5,5:cmd5:list print#5:close5 and pressing the "menu" button works till here !
but after pressing F5 and Flush the printer the cartridge freezes now like before at the print#5:close5 command.
... is it possible & save to downgrade to the last FW3.9 ? (just to tryout if things working there) ...
... just tried 3.9 (119) ... but always the same ... when press on "flush printer" the cartridge is freezing.
... so what I am doing wrong here ?
On UII+ I can’t understand what /flash path can be. It has to be /usb0/something or /usb1/something and you must have a usb stick inserted in the corresponding port. You selected PNG color, this is the slowest printer emulation, it can take more than one minute to generate the png file. Start with B&W printer as there are very few C64 programs able to print color. Wait for the green led to turn off, while the png is generating, the menu button is unresponsive.
"/Flash/printer" path was only set to test if there is something wrong with my usb sticks.
meanwhile I changed back to "png b&w" and "/Usb0/printer" (sure a usb stick is connected to this port) tried out to print a listing again directly from basic but I am now waiting since more than 10 minutes for the LED turning of ...
Is there a directory "printer" on Usb0? What happens if you just set it to /Usb0?
yes full path is. /Usb0/printer/printer-001.png
changing it to /Usb0 does not seem to have any effect.
just found out: .. it's not only the "menu" button stopping working, when I try to access via "CyberDuck FTP" I did not get any connection !
but C64 Basic is still working and I can use the "freeze" & "reset" button.
Can you try this : Change file name to /usb0/mps Set printer mode to raw and start a new print. Then flush/eject using the menu. You should have a file called mps in the root directory of your USB key (you may need to refresh directory content to see it). Now try to set printer mode to B&W PNG and do the same print job. Flush/eject using the menu, wait for the green led to turn off. You should have a file called mps-001.png on the root directory of the USB key. What is the mps file length ? Has the mps-001.png file been created ? If not, send the mps file if size is greater than 0
It sounds like I broke something.
I am not currently at home, so I can’t test it
Same applies to me.
... I have set path to "/usb0/" filename to "mps" & type to "raw". No file will be created in the root of usb0, but also, no freezing of the cartridge.
Changing type back to "png b&w" ends up with the green LED always on, menu button not working (Cartridge freezing).
Last Sunday I did a printer emulation test and it works on the U2+ and firmware 3.10.
I have used the same settings as @drwhy75 used.
Please understand It takes a few moments before the PNG file is generated. During the eject/flush process the Ultimate application might feel like it's hanging, but it is not. Also, try first using the default settings before you change anything. I have set the value for the filename to /Usb0/printer. This works for me.
Ahhh .... I see ... thank you, now it works !
If you compare the screenshot of my first post with this one:
... i had first to "reset the cartridge to defaults" and then change the paths to the current ones. With the paths of my first screenshot I ended up every time with freezing the cartridge (simply wrong path settings)!
But from the ... "print#4:close4" command to the "menu button" getting responsible again it takes about 2,5 mins and then, after "flushing" the printer again, about 1,5 mins to generate the .png files.
During the first period (from the print#4 command) some kind of indication would be fine (printer sound or LED).
best regards
