RViz and .dae files

In my current configuration (Ubuntu 12.04 and ROS Hydro), .dae 3D models, while loaded with no complaints from RViz, are not displayed. On the other hand, .stl files work fine, but do not support colours.

Just did a clean format and install of Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr, on the same machine. This time the proprietary NVidia drivers can be installed, but still the .dae object does not appear in RViz.
