GUI Crash on Open - Windows

Open louislbnc opened this issue 5 years ago • 3 comments

Hey guys, thanks for the awesome piece of software.

I and a few of my colleagues are having issues with the GUI version of the software in Windows. An empty command prompt opens and closes after about a second, the GUI never actually opens.

The command-line version of the tool works fine though.

Hi @louislbnc, this problem shows up on certain Windows platforms, but unfortunately I haven't been able to isolate the issue yet. I think the problem lies in a some of the dlls included in the release - a few people mentioned that removing the "MSVCP140.dll" fixed the issue for them, can you give that a try and let me know if that works for you? If this doesn't work, the the GUI version should work on a Mac if you have one lying around. I hope to fix this in the next version.

Hi @rohan-sawhney I have just tried removing "MSVCP140.dll" but I am getting the same sort of crash.

We have been using a Mac as a workaround for the time being. 👍

FWIW, we have determined that the resolution of your display(s) can also cause the GUI to crash at start-up. Lowering the resolution of our displays to 1920x1080 stopped it crashing for us.

A colleague accomplished a similar result by changing the Compatibility settings.

(For Win10)

  • Right-click bff-viewer.exe
  • Select 'Properties'
  • Select the 'Compatibility' tab
  • Click on the 'Change high DPI settings' button
  • Tick the 'Override high DPI scaling behaviour. Scaling performed by:' box
  • Change 'Application' to 'System', or 'System (Enhanced)'
