Provide a forum that allows members to interact directly within Geek.Zone

I think the best thing to do here would be to setup something like Discourse that can hook into the django authentication system we already have.

That way we

  • don't have to build our own forum software
  • can use some already really great forum software with all the tools that are already bundled
  • can ensure members still don't need multiple sign ins for geek.zone services

Would that mean that we would put people into a different interface? Would be best to keep people within Geek.Zone so how about https://djangopackages.org/grids/g/forum/ ?

I believe it would mean that, but if we don't build the forum ourselves that's going to be an issue I think.

I believe with Discourse you can theme it so it feels more integrated, and you can put a navigation bar at the top to make it easy for folks to find their way back to your main site.

An example would be https://ubuntu-mate.community/ which is themed to fit in with the main ubuntu-mate website.

EDIT: It's also worth noting that (IMHO) most forum software is terrible. Discourse is very popular for a good reason, it's one of the few that doesn't suck 😛
