New spin-off product based on macros
- People need snippet insertion based on macros. For example, just press Shift+1 inside of a textarea and corresponding snippet will be inserted.
- We can't insert this feature into current ProKeys since it'll confuse people who don't need.
- But the idea itself is valid. If I work in customer care, I would assign the most frequently used snippets to Shift+1, Shift+2, Shift+3 etc. Then I would not even need to type abbrevs. for it. It is even less of a hassle.
- So, we can recycle existing code to create a new product (ProMacroKeys) which eliminates abbrevs. and uses macro keys instead.
- People can always operate both ProKeys (abbrevs.) and ProMacroKeys (macros) together for the most seamless work experience.
What say? @iWrote
I guess if you could use both products simultaneously then it should be fine to spin-off. But I'd rather include it into ProKey's current feature-set.
It won't really be that confusing if it's done properly.
A favourite snips section on the snippets page which clearly states that you can bind your fav snips to shortcut key combos.
Problems
- Circuit chaos. Must include ctrl/shift/alt otherwise keyboards can malfunction. Multiple keys are often sent through same circuit routes and simultaneous keystroke selection is faulty beyound 3 keys.
- Auto-check for Ctrl+Alt+Del, etc.
- Clash, Shift + 1 + 2 vs Shift + 1. Must have a rule like - Use one or two special keys with any ONE other key.
Wouldn't this be feature overload for amateur users? I guess we could create a separate ProKeys app like "ProKeys-overlord" for things like this issue and others: #143 , #141 , #78 , #30
Normal users are bound to be confused by these things, they already are unable to comprehend the vast existing powers (refer uninstall form - people are unable to get simple signatures to work).
ProKeys Companion? K, sounds good.
