Issue
When the laptop is active and working the charging time is extremely slow so that "estimated charging time" becomes ~5h according to xfce-power-manager.
When the laptop lid is closed the charging speed is comparatively fast or same as with stock ChromeOS.
That's strange, have you confirmed that it's actually charging slowly and not just an inaccurate measurement from xfce-power-manager? It sounds to me like the machine is drawing most of the power it's getting from the wall to power the operational hardware instead of charging the battery. What I don't know is what would cause it to do that unless you're doing some insane powerhungry task.
Try using powertop to see what's going on.
Can report the same on CAVE asus c302a. Seems to be a problem in many places. Mine happened immediately after installing GalliumOS (and Mrchromebox firmware). Happens even in ChromeOS after GalliumOS install so it must be something that is persisting to EC.
Some have reported relief by clearing EC with hard reset, though it hasn't worked for me.
