Breaking a jar of essentia using a Vajra in Silk Touch mode with shift + right click duplicates the jar

I tried to break a jar of essentia using my Vajra on silk touch mode. To prevent other nearby jars from breaking as well due to the instant mining of the Vajra, I shift right clicked the jar to break it. I expected it to drop a single jar of essentia.

The Reality

The jar is duplicated, with all of the essentia inside duplicated as well. For example, one jar with 64 Aer drops two jars, each with 64 aer.
