Bluetooth devices will not reconnect, cannot be added INC2032579
Since installing Jamf, paired bluetooth devices will not connect to my Mac, even after opening System Preferences and trying to manually connect them. Additionally, devices, once removed, cannot be re-paired because there is no way to add a new bluetooth device in system preferences.
What kind of device are you trying to add?
An Apple mouse
I added my Apple mouse without issue. Try power cycling your mouse or replacing the batteries while in range of the computer, it should become available in the bluetooth preference pane. Then click pair.
I have fresh batteries in the mouse and have successfully paired it with other Macs in my house. I tried all of the following before removing the device in attempt to re-pair it:
- turning mouse on after the mac starts up
- turning mouse on before the mac starts up
- power cycling the mouse while the mac is on
- power cycling the bluetooth radio on the mac through the preference pane
- Re-adding the bluetooth menubar item (see #10) and power cycling the bluetooth radio from the menubar
- Connecting mouse from the preference pane
- Connecting the mouse from the menu bar
None of these worked. I tried most of these in attempt to re-pair the device as well.
The Bluetooth preferences may be corrupt, delete the Bluetooth preferences and restart.
Move these files to the trash
/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Bluetooth.plist
(from your user folder) ~/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.Bluetooth.xxxxxxxxxxx (This file starts with com.apple.Bluetooth, and the rest of the file will have a random mix of numbers and letters)
Now restart your Mac and cycle Bluetooth off and on and try to pair your mouse.
