Compilation error on linux

I tried to build rga at commit a183542.

Are you able to build the tool by following the steps on the README.md file? That would build the GUI app as well. Note that the Vulkan SDK is required.

Ok, I found the culprit: /home/ryp/dev/reaper/external/amd-rga/Core/Vulkan/Backend/../../../../RGA This include path assumes that the repo's folder is named RGA (not the case on my machine). This is an error in my opinion. Manually fixing it progresses the build up until link time, where a link error with boost appears.

  • Did you follow the "One time setup" steps (specifically sudo apt-get install libboost-all-dev)?
  • What versions of boost and gcc are you running with?
  • What OS are you using?

My distro is Arch Linux, I run gcc 9.2.0 and boost 1.71. I did the one time setup, and I can see the boost binaries downloaded by that script - they match the build command that tries to link the exe. Maybe there's a precedence issue where the boost install from my system is used first?

  • Did you try removing/renaming the boost folder from ../Common../Lib/Ext to avoid a situation where it mixes up with the installed boost?
  • You might want to try using an earlier version of gcc - it might be a compatibility issue with boost 1.71 (see the COMPILERS TESTED section in this page - it seems like boost 1.71 has not been tested with gcc 9.2).

@Ryp thank you for sharing that the build scripts expect your folder to be "RGA". I ran into the same problem on Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS, and I agree it's a bug.

I'm running (./Prebuild.sh --vk-include /usr/include/vulkan/ --vk-lib /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu) then (cd Linux/Make/Debug) then (make) per README.md "Building on Ubuntu".

I'm now getting other build errors (during make), but I'm at least past the (include <Utils/Include/rgaSharedDataTypes.h>) error.

With the latest changes, the prebuild scripts should no longer expect a specific parent folder name.
