Hello, yes, it was postponed for some time, because we worked on integration of Hydra render engine into Blender directly https://projects.blender.org/blender/blender/pulls/104712. Now this project reimplemented as new Blender render addon as RPR delegate for Hydra render engine.

Hi, Just to be clear, is this the equivalent to a Houdini stage? if we want to bring in USD references, compose USD inside Blender 4.0 and export USD modified layers this is the addon to use? We don't need anything else?

Hello, no, it's not equivalent to a Houdini stage, there is no USD nodegraph. This is Hydra render engine with RPR delegate inside. USD nodegraph was here in previous versions: https://github.com/GPUOpen-LibrariesAndSDKs/BlenderUSDHydraAddon/releases/tag/v1.1.8 but it works with older Blender versions 2.93 - 3.4

Thanks for the prompt reply. Is the USD nodegraph coming back to the project for current versions of Blender(4.0)? I think a nodegraph is what would make Blender a first class citizen in USD land, and would very much hope that happens.

There are several tickets where you can read discussions on this question: https://projects.blender.org/blender/blender/issues/100569 https://projects.blender.org/blender/blender/issues/100367 https://projects.blender.org/blender/blender/issues/68933
