Add Pale Moon to the browser list.

It would be nice to see Pale Moon on the list of browsers, so we can see what is supported in that browser.

What's the reason why Pale Moon isn't still added after one and a half year?

What hinders it?

Pale Moon is much better and popular than the many already in your list. Please consider adding this browser to the list.

What's the reason why Pale Moon isn't still added after four and a half year?

What hinders it?

6 years later, I'm still hoping to see Pale Moon get added.

Followers of this issue may find the discussion under the "Add NetSurf to browser list" issue enlightening: https://github.com/Fyrd/caniuse/issues/5700

What may be most effective is addressing the maintainer's primary concern, which is that he doesn't want to take on the additional work/responsibility required for a browser that (practically) nobody is using.

Possible approaches:

  • Offer to help - Managing volunteers can consume as much time as doing stuff yourself, but the maintainer may accept an offer of help if you can do it without increasing his workload.
  • Donate - caniuse has a Patreon, maybe money would help him find more time.
  • Demonstrate browser popularity - The maintainer said "The reason QQ and Baidu were added was because I was informed these browsers have very high usage share in China", so if Pale Moon were to become popular in North Korea or something where StatCounter can't measure it, and you could document that somehow, that would might tip the scales. What measurements of popularity aside from StatCounter, "the primary source to see what's popular", might be convincing?
  • Demonstrate flaws in StatCounter - I know that Google Analytics is blocked by many of the techies who might use Pale Moon. Is the same true of StatCounter? If so, can we estimate the undercount?
  • Convince him to change his criteria for supporting browsers - I argued that supporting alternate browser engines may help us avoid a browser monoculture, a goal he agreed with, but he was not convinced caniuse support would make a difference. Do you have any anecdotes or data that suggests caniuse support would make a difference in an alternate browser engine's viability?
  • Make Pale Moon more popular - What have you done for Pale Moon's popularity lately? ;-)
  • Create an alternative - If caniuse functionality is desirable, but caniuse can't/won't support Pale Moon, how hard would it be to build a caniuse clone that can track alternate browser engines like Pale Moon, NetSurf, Servo, SerenityOS's Browser, etc.?

I reported #6439 before knowing about this issue.

This question is covered in the issue I opened. Usually, the developers I know (including former classmates, current teammates, friends and myself), prefer checking here before testing in order to save time if other people already made the test.

I am willing to make these compatibility tests first if no-one tried first though and I think I can comment the same of Pale Moon community.

I think this also helps about offering help.

Make Pale Moon more popular - What have you done for Pale Moon's popularity lately? ;-)

I can surely speak that some web browsers listed here were known by known people after seeing them in CanIUse.

This, even myself participating here in public and maintaining active this thread, make web browsers being known.
