Description (include any images, videos, errors, or crash logs)
I loaded the game on NG a couple of days ago and it was really laggy. I thought nothing of it until I tried playing again today and checked task manager because it was super laggy again. It showed Chrome using up to 70-80% of my CPU resources. I opened the Chrome task in task manager and found a single "Google Chrome" was using a lot of resources. Thinking it was the game, I hit end task. It was the game, and I don't know if this is a NG thing or my computer. Could you help me with this?
btw, if you want to know what my CPU is, it's a 12th Gen Core i7 12700H
Task Manager:
Steps to Reproduce
- Open the game on NG using Google Chrome.
- Check task maniger.
- If Chrome is taking a lot of resources, try closing NG and checking task manager again.
- If your resources from Chrome are now low then you have what is happing to me
Does the itch.io Windows downloadable build use a similar amount of resources? If so, this is just how the game normally runs.
For me, the downloadable build for Windows from itch.io never uses more than 5% of my CPU. I just opened the game on Newgrounds and it used a similar amount of my CPU.
I tried downloading from itch.io, and it worked fine. If I play it on NG or the itch.io web embed, it still lags like crazy and takes up a ton of CPU resources. Good to know I got it running great on my PC.
Interesting, can you see if CPU usage is similar for Newgrounds on a different browser?
Just downloaded Firefox (im not dealing with edge) and it works great! It ran at around 5-10% CPU for NG and itch.io, which is awesome compared to Chrome. So I really don't know if it's a Chrome thing or not. I

We all know the true answer is to use Internet Explorer.

Just unlocked Pico on Firefox (really wish save data would not be in cookies) and tried. It won't get past the lock, going in the key and then making some unlocking noises. It won't unlock Pico in Firefox. Chrome allows me to select Pico and play Pico Mixes and stuff, but it still uses a lot of my CPU.

It seems that Firefox still has the issue with character select then: #4766
Thanks for testing! The Firefox Character Select issue was reported in https://github.com/FunkinCrew/Funkin/issues/4578.
Looks like Firefox can't handle Pico, so you might want to try another alternative.

Okay. Also if I find another browser that works with Pico I should test a song with him right?
Yep! As far as I know, only Chrome and Firefox have browser-specific issues
Just tried on Opera works great! BF and Pico songs both run. So I don't know seems to be a chrome issue
Great, thanks for the update!
I'll leave this issue open so the Chrome issue can be addressed.
Can you rename it to "Performance Issue: Chrome uses too much CPU"?
Sure! Hopefully this gets fixed
