Grid View shows all participants in a vertical grouping.

Open blackroseyagami opened this issue 4 years ago • 9 comments

As of February 8th Grid View stopped working properly, it now shows all participants in a vertical list. meet grid

Any ideas what could be causing this?

I tried with different computers and wouldn't work.

I disabled hardware acceleration on the browser and its working right now but this wasn't an issue last week.

To make it not show in a vertical, you actually have to turn off the grid. I cannot use it. Another issue that popped up is where my screen will not show even when it is selected.

Have had same issues as described above, that had been periodic and random. Annoying when they pop up, but not killing me. Have has 5 HS based Google Meets and 4 of 5 started with vertical arrangement. End meet, go out, join meet and 1 or 2 times it came back working, but last time in and out 5 times, and still the same problem. Turning off ends the vertical stack, puts them in tiled, but names are random and I use this extension so I can use Google Meet Attendance. If I can't sort by last name it's just about useless. It is hit and miss for me too. I can have two Meets open and one works fine and the other shows verticle. Then when I come back to them after lunch, they are both verticle.

It turns out that Google is testing an update of Meet that disables the Grid View extension. This is why sometimes it works and sometimes not (you see the boxes in a vertical bar). If you seriously need Grid View right now, you might consider refreshing a few times the browser tab (you should end up loading the old compatible version at a certain point). The extension (fix version) has been removed from Chrome Web Store (it won't be automatically removed from your browser). In fact, updating Grid View would require a huge amount of work or may not be feasible at all. Please, remember that Google Meet introduced native grid view (up to 49 tiles).

If anyone is available to work on the issue, please, let me know.

Well this sucks, mainly because they biggest advantage of the extension isn't the grid view itself it's being able to see our presentations and ourselves in the grid, as a teacher it allows for more control from my point of view.

Eventually it seems it will stop working...

@FoxForFriends Read icysapphire's post. They have been doing most of the updates to Grid View, but this new issue seems to require too much work.
