speedup populate command - Documentation Clarification

Hello,

I'm trying to improve the speed of populate,

Have installed the bundle and the file system transport. Now trying to configure it... In your documentation you are saying

": As long as you are on Symfony Flex you are done. If not, you have to do some extra things, like registering the bundle in your AppKernel class."

would it be possible to elaborate on the extra things? I'm not using flex... and im stuck with enqueue 8.... their documentation is for 9... I'm a not at all experienced developer and not sure exactly what steps may be required, other than config.yml & appkernel.php. Do I need to set up producer & consumer for instance?
