[Request] Don't remember progress for short videos

Open Namnodorel opened this issue 5 years ago • 4 comments

It's nice to have the feature of remembering the place where I left off - but it's not always useful. For example, I watch a lot of music videos repeatedly that aren't any longer than a couple of minutes. For these videos, I don't need to continue where I "left off", I just want to watch it from the start.

I think a setting that lets the user specify what length a video needs to have to have its progress remembered would be ideal. I personally don't need this feature for videos shorter than 30 minutes.

Something like this would definitely have to be configurable in order for it to be suitable to do. What everyone considers as a "short video" differs and will always leave someone frustrated if they can't choose where that threshold is. It's something I'll look into doing for a future update.

Also, the ability to resume previous videos will also be disabled if you disable history within the settings. Hopefully that helps you in the short-term.

One should also consider the privacy issue involved by remembering the playtime as this makes it much easier for google to recognize that its the same user watching (maybe days before unpausing).

Users concerned about this should just disable watch progress altogether. Such a concern is unrelated to this suggested enhancement.

It's almost been 5 years since the proposal of this issue. I believe it would be great if it were to get a little bit of attention.

(I would do it myself if I knew how, but I lack expertise in any of the languages used in this project, neither were I ever successful in building source code myself. It's a bit too overwhelming for me at this moment. If the UI and logo weren't already well done, I would offer my help in some amateur graphic design, but that's not the case sadly.)
