setting value doesn't change related values

I've labeled this as a bug but it may be intentional, I'm facing an issue with the configuration where if I have (for instance) a default Main path, modifying the main path with an environment variable has no effect on the related paths e.g. environment variable is set for the main path but certs path doesn't change.
