Fedora 40 (official Thunderbird and external-editor-revived): ExtEditoR failed to talk to messaging host
Description
Hi Frederick888, I'm a great fan of the ExtEditor plugin because I can use GVim in Thunderbird; other mail clients, such as Aerc, are more vimmish but, for example, don't support O365 accounts.
I just reinstalled a PC with the latest Fedora 40, and to my pleasure, the external-editor-revived binary is already available as a package. Sadly, starting the External editor gives an error: "ExtEditoR failed to talk to messaging host."
From the error tool in Thunderbird, I cannot see the problem.
Environment
- OS: Linux fedora 6.8.11-300.fc40.x86_64 #1 SMP PREEMPT_DYNAMIC Mon May 27 14:53:33 UTC 2024 x86_64 GNU/Linux
- Thunderbird version: 115.11.0
- ExtEditorR extension version: Version 1.1.0, Last Updated February 6, 2024
external-editor-revived --versionoutput: External Editor Revived native messaging host for linux (x86_64) v0.4.0
It works for me on Fedora 40 with a manual installation of the external-editor-revived binary. The fedora package needs to be updated (see [1]) but this is currently blocked by some dependencies that also need to be updated [2].
