Post here all the cool projects you've built using FrameOS.

Please share:

  • The name/model of the display
  • Which raspberry are you using
  • How did you make the case.
  • What's the function of the frame
  • Share the exported scenes .zip if possible

Please note that by sharing an image here, you're giving me explicit permission to use it on the frameos.net site, for example in device guides, galleries or other promotional materials / illustrations.

I'll kick things off myself. I currently have 3 frames built and deployed around the house, with ideas for more.

Frame 1

  • Inky Impression 5.7"
  • Raspberry Pi Zero W (original ver 1)
  • The case is from printables. It's pretty thin, but works. Big hole on the side. Need to remove screws to reset/unplug the frame.
  • Acts as a home dashboard near the front door. Tells the weather and which windows are open.
  • The scene is just one "download URL" app + the "QR code" app, pointing to a static image exported by the Home Assistant Kindle Screensaver tool. Scanning the QR code lets you choose between this scene, and the QR message board (see frame 3).

Frame 2

  • Pimoroni HyperPixel 2.1 Round
  • Raspberry Pi Zero W2
  • Case from Cults3d (3.75€)
  • Acts as a thermostat in the bathroom. The Ikea zigbee button turns the hot water on/off via Home Assistant, the frame checks the state every few seconds and displays a countdown timer until the water turns off again. The background is an image search for either "snow" or "fire", depending on the state. The frame updates at about 20 FPS, and is turned on/off together with the lights in the room (home assistant automation).
  • I'll share the blueprint once I've converted it to the latest version.

Frame 3

  • Inky Impression 7.3"
  • Raspberry Pi Zero W2
  • No case, zip-tied to an IKEA Skådis board.
  • This frame acts as a general message board in the kitchen, where we leave passive-aggressively cute messages to one another.
  • It's using the default QR Message Board template. Scanning the QR code opens a control interface to change the message.
