v9 columns plugin

Hi.

Can you please advise me if it is possible to modify the removed columns plugin so that it is compatible with version 9? Before I run into this, I would like to know if it is achievable at all and what has been changed in the core with respect to columns. I depend heavily on columns, and the lack of columns means no mmenu-js 9 for me, even though I am multiple websites license holder.
