1.0.0

Affected Android/Custom ROM version

Android 7.1.2

Affected device model

Nokia 6 - TA-1033

How did you install the app?

Google Play Store

Steps to reproduce the bug

playlist example:

  1. go to Playlists
  2. Create new playlist from folder
  3. select SDCARD folder with a few .mp3 or .ogg files
  4. enter name for the playlist
  5. watch the playlist appear but with 0 Tracks.
  6. rescan media does nothing. waiting for days does nothing.

direct play example:

  1. open Fossify File Manager
  2. browse to SDCARD folder with a few .mp3 or .ogg files
  3. double tab on one media file, open with Fossify Music Player
  4. Music Player starts but plays the first song of the internal storage

Expected behavior

Music Player should open and load valid media files on my sdcard.

Actual behavior

hello, I cannot get anything to load (into a playlist) or play from my sdcard. This is already an old issue since v5.4.4 of Simple Music Player: https://github.com/SimpleMobileTools/Simple-Music-Player/issues/138#issuecomment-754519373

But bear with me. What struck me today is that this is not logical since all other Fossify apps have no problem with accessing my sdcard. For example Gallery, Voice Recorder and File Manager.

When I try to open one music file on my sdcard from the Fossify File Manager then Fossify Music Player plays another song instead (the first one of my internal phone storage). When I try to open a music file on my sdcard from the Fossify File Manager and select VLC there is no issue. When I try to load any file or folder from sdcard into a playlist, nothing happens it stays stuck at 0 items.

Since my music collection on the sdcard is rather large (~2200 songs / 15GB) i tried adding one small folder ( < 10 ) or single file to a playlist. Nothing from the sdcard is successful.

So what is different between Music Player and the other Fossify apps that it cannot find and open anything from my sdcard?

!! UPDATE !! So i moved Fossify Voice Recorder output to my sdcard to prove it has no problems with the sdcard. Low and behold, that showed up in Music Player after i rescanned the media.

So I now started to investigate my sdcard music collection folders more closely.

Findings so far:

  1. there was a .nomedia file in the root of my collection. removed that as it could block scanning (?)
  2. my original music content is still not seen at any scan, i checked owner / permission and it is the same as newly created files and folders.
  3. when I create a new folder on sdcard, 1 or 2 layers deep with freshly copied music Music Player sees it.
  4. when I create a new folder on sdcard root and copy some music structure with deep folders (total upto 5 folders deep) it is not seen.

CONCLUSION: Music Player still has some small issues, VLC finds all my sdcard media regardless.

WORKAROUND: I will copy my music freshly over in a shallow structure, something like this seems to work: sdcard/L1.MyMusic/L2.Artist/L3.Album/files.ogg-mp3

Maybe this can help other users if they encounter the same.

Same issue here.

When I put a song or other music track (mp3 or m4a) in the /sdcard/Music folder, it is not seen by this app. Only when I click 'Rescan media' then (not always !) after a few minutes it is recognized. Before it is recognized, when I try to play it from another file browser (e.g. FileManager+) and click on 'Open with...' and select Music Player, the MP plays a different track. Weird.

I could understand the 'Rescan media' mandate when the song is in a non-media folder (the app has only access to media files), but it is obvious that an app like yours which does have media access, should be able to read any media file in folders like Music or Videos.

Device: Nothing phone 2a, Android 14.
