You can exclude folders from the Folders tab on the main screen. Adding from Settings was turned off some time ago due to app permission restrictions in Google Play.
Do you think this could possibly return? Like parity to how the Fossify Gallery app functions? Why is Fossify Gallery different?
Unlikely to happen. Fossify Gallery was just rejected again for file permission issues. We might lose the hide/unhide functionality if the Google team doesn't reconsider.
Google's policy: "All files access" is only granted to apps that will be rendered unusable without the access.
Fossify Music Player is "no longer" eligible according to this policy. Fossify Gallery is not eligible either but somehow Simple Gallery and other apps with this permission are still live on the play store.
I know this is probably a lot more work, and also probably a ton less convenient for Google Play Store users, but why not have two separate versions for the Google Play Store and F-Droid. I get that maintaining two separate versions of the same app for different platforms is probably a nightmare, especially if you're going to include import/export for all of them, but it's an idea that would probably fix the issue as you wouldn't have the Google Play Store limitations set in place.
I don't know, if this is common in the whole Android universum or if it's device-/OS-specific (my device is a Shift5me running ShiftOS 2.0 L, which is basically an AOSP 8.1):
I just put an empty file named ".nomedia" (incl. the dot) in a folder, I want to be excluded from media scanning. This affects all child-folders.
This generally works with the fossify player, too. But I get an "unknown error", after opening the app the first time after placing the .nomedia file. The AOSP stock player does this without an error.
The .nomedia is a good to have supported.
