Affected app version

1.1.6

Affected Android/Custom ROM version

Android 12

Affected device model

Oukitel WP21 Ultra

How did you install the app?

F-Droid / IzzyOnDroid

Steps to reproduce the bug

  1. Open a conversation
  2. Press home button or move focus to a different app
  3. Open app again

Expected behavior

The conversation that you were looking at comes back up.

Actual behavior

The number or contact name of the conversation you were looking at when you removed focus from the app comes back up, but the messages from a different conversation are displayed. If you return to the messages list and re-enter the conversation, the correct conversation will load.

Additional information

I can reliably replicate the behaviour every time I remove focus from the app on the Oukitel phone. It has occasionally also happened on my old CAT S61 running Android 9, but I haven't been able to replicate it reliably on that phone.

Interesting. Did this issue first appear on 1.1.6 or have you encountered it before, say in version 1.1.5?

Also, if you are willing, please try the latest version (1.1.7) and see if the problem exists there.

I also have some other questions:

  • It doesn't look like it but is this a group conversation?
  • Do you have MMS messages in this thread?
  • Is this happening with all conversations or just some?

I'll try it on 1.1.7 as soon as it's available on F-Droid. 1.1.6 seems to be the latest version available there, and it's the only version I've had on the Oukitel. I'm certain that I've seen it happen on my old phone which was running 1.1.3, but I haven't been able to reproduce it today. Both these phones were recently factory restored, with all my old messages being imported to them.

I also have some other questions:

* It doesn't look like it but is this a group conversation?

* Do you have MMS messages in this thread?

* Is this happening with all conversations or just some?
  • None of the conversations are group conversations.
  • Some of them have MMS messages in them, but not all of them.
  • It is happening with many conversations, but not all.
  • Senders that are short-codes seem to be more affected than normal numbers.

I also noticed that the message previews in the message list are also incorrect for a lot of conversations (it seems to be all conversations that haven't been viewed once in Fossify Messages). The previews turn correct once the conversation has been viewed once, and a conversation with an incorrect preview will not necessarily have the "alt-tab issue". I installed Simple SMS Messenger as a sanity check to make sure it's not just an issue with my message history, but that app displays everything correctly. See attached picture.

Okay, thanks for the detailed reply!

Both these phones were recently factory restored, with all my old messages being imported to them.

In that case, this may be a import-specific issue although I could not reproduce it. How many conversations do you have?

Quite a few, and most of them are short. These are work-phones that get lots of texts from unknown numbers.

@FFCCSa1F May I suggest a cache delete for the app? At least for the issue with previews.

Could it be the same issue as this one from the old Simple Messages app - https://github.com/SimpleMobileTools/Simple-SMS-Messenger/issues/640

We use the Simple Messages app on our kid's phones (re-based on the Fossify version). Many users are reporting a similar issue where they send a text to Contact A, but Contact B gets the text.

Got exactly the same problem in 1.1.7 I cant even send texts anymore because it keeps on confusing contacts and sending my texts to the wrong person.
