Feature description
Basic virtual groups are a way of sorting folders from the internal storage and/or SD card in a way that doesn't interfere with the storage itself (ex. creating a folder to host multiple other folders)
Best example I have of this feature is the Samsung Gallery. While there are albums for each folder, we can create a group to add a series of folders in it for the sake of convenience and to look for things more easily instead of searching around a few dozen useless folders to find an image or video.
Picture below is an example of how a group should look like:
Virtual groups aren't just limited to groups that host multiple folders but they can also have subgroups inside.
Why do you want this feature?
This feature is really just for convenience and ease of use of the gallery app. For me personally, as someone who has probably over 50 folders that contain media from the amount of apps I've used over the years that created their own folders it's a deal-breaker not having virtual grouping functions in a gallery app (which is why I used to stick with the Samsung gallery app for quite some time)

Hey, + 1 for this feature request!
I switched from samsung to pixel and ever since I have been looking for a gallery like the one on samsung.
I have 60+ albums and would like to simply group them so that managing and searching my library is easier and more convenient. The current feature with the nested folders is nice but in my case I organised my folders in so many subdirectories that it is not really a good way to view albums in a gallery app.
I could also imagine that this could attract a fair amount of former samsung users looking for this feature such as myself :)
This could be a very useful feature. After all, a gallery app's core mission is to help users better organize their media files. Currently, users need to create multiple folders directly in the home directory (storage/emulated/0) for them to appear as separate albums in the app. This approach is not ideal from a file management perspective. With this feature, all albums could instead be placed in a common "Pictures" directory (or another user-specified folder) while still being organized correctly in the app according to user needs.
This'd would be an especially good feature for someone with two storages (internal storage and SD-card).
I would really like to have this feature.
