Feature description

Provide an option Keep zoom/pan state across media that does exactly that.

It can, but doesn't have to, be conditionally bound to Allow instantly changing media by clicking on screen sides, to be available only if the latter is also active.

Why do you want this feature?

The ability to keep zoom/pan status unchanged while zapping through media is the single most outstanding feature of good old QuickPic I keep missing in Simple/Fossify Gallery on a daily basis, even after so many years.

THE PROBLEM

With the setting Allow instantly changing media by clicking on screen sides being active, media can be swiftly changed by side taps regardless of zoom and pan state. Unfortunately, the full potential of that option is far from being utilized, as long as zoom and pan states are notoriously reset on every transition.

If you e. g. need to pick the best photos out of a large trial on the same motive, it's often crucial to compare them based on the quality of a particular detail.

As of v1.6.0, Fossify Gallery is hardly useful in that regard. Whatever you do with it to find the best reproduction of details between photos,

the comparisons are very vague (based on memory)

if you

  • zoom/pan in each photo,
  • memorize that view,
  • then switch to the next photo
  • try to manually approximate the same zooming/panning state there (and not to mix up your memories in the meantime),
  • compare what you see with what you remember
or
the procedure is very convoluted (based on screenshots)

if you

  • try to manually approximate the same zoom/pan states in every concerned photo view,
  • make a screenshot thereof,
  • continue with the next photo, until you have made such detail screenshots of all concerned photos,
  • then go to your screenshots folder,
  • swipe through those screenshots, marking the bad ones,
  • and finally, figure out which original photos the marked sreenshots belong to, and delete them.

Should you even want to compare another detail, the same story would start again.

SUGGESTED SOLUTION

With this feature implemented, you can instead compare and mark/delete the photos in place by tapping on the screen sides, even at high zoom levels and panned views.

Additional information

Like for many, discovering Simple Gallery once was a great relief for me when QuickPic went down the adbusting toilet. Then, the same happened again with SimpleMobileTools ...

Thank you so much for forking, and even further improving, this precious piece of software! <3

This would be invaluable for digital photography, where you often have to scroll through hundreds of nearly identical images to find the one with the correct focus or composition.

Yep, that's exactly the point. It's self-explanatory if you're familiar with the task at hand, but difficult to get across otherwise.
