Feature description
In groups tab allow to filter contacts matching more than one selected group, e.g. companies in a certain region.
Why do you want this feature?
I use groups as tags/labels and have many contacts tagged with more than one tag. Having several hundred contacts this will make it easier to find matching contacts.
Additional information
How exactly this would work according to your screenshot? I select two groups, tap some button and see which contacts are stored in both of these groups at the same time?

I am not sure if I understand you correct. What shall be seen are all contacts that have (at least) these two groups in their details, not all contact in these two groups. E.g. Group 1: Companies Group 2: a certain region Show all Companies in that region
It could work, but it wouldn't make sense to call groups "groups" anymore. It would have to be renamed to labels or tags, but even then, this feels a little too advanced for a contacts app.

The German locale of the AOSP contacts app calls it "Label", although this is not a German word. I think groups, labels or tags doesn't matter. The phone is my address book. I think using it in that way is not too advanced. But as I cannot push a patch I must accept your decision. Any way, thank you for maintaining this helpful app, especially merging the advanced address management.
My impression is that this request boils down to allow searching contacts by the group field, that at the moment is not allowed. I understand this is so because it is easier to just open a group to see who is inside, by I guess it should not be very difficult to implement from a technical point of view and might help in cases like that described in this feature request.
searching contacts by the group field
Close, but this one is about taking the intersection of two groups, similar to how we can filter issues using multiple labels here on GitHub.
should not be very difficult to implement
Technically speaking, most things here are easy to implement. Whether something should be implemented is usually the question :)

Of course, you are right. Actually, I was wondering whether this 'intersection' could be a more general behaviour of the search function, that would allow one to search all fields contemporaneously using more than one word. This would help finding some specific person living in some specific city, say 'paul paris'. Of by name and profession, 'doc elisa'.
But, as you said above, maybe this would be too advanced for a contacts app.
At the same time, searching for more words contemporaneously would be very useful for the Contacts app, to streamline searches and make them easier. It seems to me that there is no feature request about this there, so maybe none really cares. Do you think it might be worth to open one?

That's a feature of AOSP contacts app. But there one can search only for the beginning of words. Fossify searches anywhere which is much better esp. in German where nouns are often combinations of words. The combination of these search features would be great. Additionally making it possible to search for groups/labels would solve my feature request.

Just realised I made a mistake here. I meant ‘Messages app’, not ‘Contacts app’. Anyway, this multiple search could be useful in both cases. 😄

It makes sense to implement this "keyword search" in other Fossify apps as well.
Gmail, Google Calendar already have this, and if I remember correctly, Slack does too.
Do you think it might be worth to open one?
Yes, preferably in general.
