Steps to reproduce the bug
Import contacts from a .vcf file. Even though the app has permission to access contacts, the only option that comes up is, "Phone storage (not visible by other apps)."
Expected behavior
I expect to be able to add it to the phone's contacts.
Actual behavior
I can't add it to the phone's contacts.

Work-around:
If I add a single contact using the stock app and then try to import via Fossify Contacts, then I see the option of "Phone storage". Note that while the import ultimately completes, the "Import Contacts / Target contact source / Phone Storage" dialogue does not disappear for some time, and if it's disturbed, the import will only be partial. A progress bar might be in order.
Seven months on and still no fix. I am grateful for the workaround, but why does this bug exist in the first place since this was not an issue with Simple Mobile's Contacts app?

Was it really not there in Simple Contacts app?
Simple Contacts had no problem importing Contacts so that they were visible to all apps like Signal Messenger.
Hey I just switched phones to one with LineageOS. I used the AOSP contacts app and imported them there as a temporary workaround. Any update on this?
@Kreuger / the standards for contacts are so poorly developed, that the stock app may or may not import all your contact fields. The hope would be to improve the situation through this app.
Note that there is a work-around. See the end of the OP.

It seems to have worked fine for me. 🤷🏻♂️
