I am not getting notifications for recurring tasks

Describe the bug I have created some daily recurring tasks with notification "at start". But this only works the first few times or so and then I don't get notifications any more. This is not an issue with one-time tasks.

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

  1. Create local tasks
  2. Set to recur daily (or anything else)
  3. Set Notification: "at start"

Expected behavior Notification at start of each recurring instance, e.g. a new notification once a day

Device info (please complete the following information):

  • Model: Pixel 8
  • OS: GrapheneOS / Android 14
  • Version 1.0.2

Additional context I thought that maybe forgetting to "complete" the previous days' tasks results in the app not giving more notifications. But that doesn't seem to be the case.

Has anyone else noticed a bug like this?

I have the same problem with last version of SCalendar (6.23.1) on MIUI 12.5/ Android 11 I only installed FossifyCalendar yesterday, and it takes some days to check if the bug is still here... But probably it is...

Ok, so I checked for a few days. (Redmi note 10s, MIUI 12.5/ Android 11) In my case, it seems that the problem I had with SCalendar (6.23.1) doesn't show up with FCalendar (1.0.2).

I have set up a daily repeating task and a daily repeating event, with a reminder 10mins before. They both notified me every day for ten days (unlike the old version).

But I have a problem with the "mark as completed" button on the notification, it worked only the first 2 times, the other 8 it only dismissed the notification, but the task was not set as completed.

This is my experience, don't know if OP still has the problem...

I think it's the same for me now. So far notifications have worked - although I actually removed my daily tasks and just use the alarm app instead - but like you said the "marked as completed" notification doesn't set the task as completed.

Folks I can confirm the exact same issue on my Pixel 8 Pro running the latest GrapheneOS: repeating daily tasks do not show any notifications whilst one-off tasks do.

Folks, is there any update on the status / issue by a chance? I had to switch to another app as this is affecting performance (recurring customer meeting / team event notifications, etc). @naveensingh

@popogomo I will ping you when it's fixed :)

Thanks a lot and sorry for nagging - I know you guys are very busy.

the "marked as completed" notification doesn't set the task as completed.

That was fixed (https://github.com/FossifyOrg/Calendar/issues/156).

repeating daily tasks do not show any notifications whilst one-off tasks do.

This I cannot reproduce. Does anyone else have this issue? If yes, please share your device info and any additional steps necessary to reproduce this.

I have dealt with this issue for all repeating tasks. The pattern I've noticed is that this happens mainly toward tasks with a 0 or a 5 at the end of the time they are set for.

Oh, also I am using a Google Pixel 8 with the app set for unrestricted background usage.

eggsnpie avatar Feb 14 '25 03:02 eggsnpie

@eggsnpie Hi! Do you still have this problem in the latest release?

naveensingh avatar Mar 20 '25 09:03 naveensingh

So, far no. I appreciate all your work.

eggsnpie avatar Mar 20 '25 10:03 eggsnpie

Okay, thanks!

Perhaps it is fixed now but we'll keep this open a little more just in case.

naveensingh avatar Mar 20 '25 10:03 naveensingh

I'll be testing the app on my device with different tasks, recurring at different times over the next week. I'll update this with my findings here.

eggsnpie avatar Mar 20 '25 12:03 eggsnpie

I have the same issue using the latest version of Calendar (1.2.0). Notification works only the first time, it does not show up for later recurring events. It does not matter if it weekly or yearly.

Using Android 15.

sbstn87 avatar Mar 20 '25 12:03 sbstn87

Ahh, that's the case! I thought it's a notification problem but noticed that only recurring events don't show up for me. Latest one I missed is a task scheduled to repeat forever every 2 weeks on Wednesdays, at 07:00. I remember it working properly before. Seems like one-time tasks work as expected, gonna get to know next Tuesday with a task scheduled a bit ago, I guess.

I've noticed so far that notifications have worked perfectly fine. This may be a stupid question. Is it entirely possible that for users who set up events in previous updates without those fixes, that these tasks/events are continuing to be broken despite this? Like maybe for some reason these tasks/events need to be remade after the update with this fix in order for them to work?

I think not, I reinstalled the app two weeks ago and added all the tasks and events manually.

nvllz avatar Mar 22 '25 19:03 nvllz

Hm. Well, when you mark those tasks complete through the notification, have you had the app open recently before that?

eggsnpie avatar Mar 22 '25 20:03 eggsnpie

I didn't have this issue before, but I am noticing this issue starting from this month. I didn't remember when I updated the app to 1.2.0 though.

It seems that I can reproduce the bug now. I have a calendar synchronized to my Google account using DAVx5, and the recurring events on that calendar can be correctly notified by Fossify Calendar. Then, in Fossify Calendar, delete one future occurrence and all its following recurring ones. Then the notifications for this set of recurring events (that aren't deleted) will be broken.

UlyssesZh avatar Apr 04 '25 16:04 UlyssesZh

I guess that's not it. It started working from yesterday again. I don't know what I did.

UlyssesZh avatar Apr 10 '25 03:04 UlyssesZh

Don't get too hyped, I also received a notification last week and this monday it didn't show up lmao.
