Add local barcode database

Open ChaiFox opened this issue 2 years ago • 5 comments

I would like to suggest as a feature the option to have a local database of UPC codes that can be used (as a fallback) to find products. That way this project can be used in more remote areas with slow/spotty/non existent internet connections (or by people that want to limit the external connections from their home systems).

I would be happy to include such a database, if you know any where it can be downloaded.

I have a spreadsheet of 73k+ items I used for the pantry software I wrote and would be happy to upload it to my cloud drive and post a link. Its just UPC, brand, and name so very basic.

That would be great, if you send it to me, I can include in BarcodeBuddy Federation first and can use it for offline use in one of the next Barcode Buddy releases. Under what license is the data released?

Creative Commons, if you feel so inclined to attribute the initial data set to me go for it but use it however you want. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eDBwYYwG7THFuXnE2A8kc6ul-hDrht_y/view?usp=sharing

Imported 73872 barcodes, 73635 new barcodes found.

Thanks a lot, they have been added to the federation :)
