Set top most results- prompt user for starting character instead

Open fdawans opened this issue 3 years ago • 11 comments

Hello,

How can I assign, for example, typing the letter 'e' to Excel as topmost? In this case, I did it by manually navigating all the results and the setting as topmost in query. However, for some files, the desired program is not in the results, so I cannot set it as top most.

Is there a file somewhere that I can edit ?

Thank you,

So that I am clear what you mean, you know how to set a result as topmost via the context menu, but there are some programs that you can't find, is this what you mean?

If so what programs can't you find?

I usually do this.

and if it is an application, I also would add it to the window start menu and reindex again, it would come.

@jjw24 Yes, some programs that I cannot find. Search is mixed up in the results with the applications. Maybe I can deactivate search to set up the topmost then reactivate. Also I can put a lower the priority for search.

@Zeroto521 I was also using that trick before, I guess I forgot about it.. Thanks! Not straightforward but it worked, yes.

It could be easier to be able to edit a file and to put the path of the application next to a hotkey.

Can you find those programs if you type in the full name?

Yes, that works, but then how do I assign a single key to it?

Oh ok, so the scenario here is you want to assign topmost to a result with a single letter, e.g. assign topmost to 'settings' when query 's', but problem is you are limited to locating that result amongst lots of results that come back with 's'

Maybe when setting a result as topmost, it will prompt you starting with how many characters from the title of the result should show up as topmost. This way you can do a full/partial text search for the result and still be able to assign a single character

Exactly, results are limited so I cannot find the right app. I have (almost) all my apps that are mapped to a single key, it's very useful.

You can set this up in the Plugin Runner plugin. See below, with that I type r tab in Flow and it launches the Tablacus application for me. If you choose Excel and give it the shortcut of 'e' you can start excel with r e in Flow
