Bug Summary

after disabling Firefox's shortcuts and restarting the browser, the shortcuts are disabled as expected and I can assign new shortcuts that work but if try to assign a shortcut that was used by Firefox, I get an error telling the shortcut is already in use

Reproduction Steps

  1. go to settings and disable Mozilla Firefox's keyboard shortcut
  2. restart the browser for the change to take effect
  3. try assigning a shortcut previously used by Firefox

Expected Behavior

Shortcut is assigned to action

Actual Behavior

Shortcut is declared already in use and cannot be assigned

By the way, what shortcut did you try to enter?

Same issue, dont have any keybindings set and also disabled firefox keybindings. None work: ctrl+w, ctrl+q, ctrl+v ...

Same problem here, even when default Firefox keybinds are disabled, it is impossible to reuse them in custom shortcuts.

same on 11.19.1, Arch Linux AUR

Alt+D, also doesn't work. If a key is already assigned, it needs to offer to remove the existing shortcut instead of failing.

Alt+left, Alt+right also can't be remapped.

This is a primary feature for heavy keyboard users, hopefully its resolvable.

I found a issue with, when using the "Disable Mozilla Firefox's keyboard shortcuts" and messing with the shortcuts. Was trying to set open new tab to meta+t (its a mac thing). after messing with the check box an some shortcuts i could no longer use ctrl+ to do anything. Making a new profile an copping the stuff over fixed it.I haven't been able to get it to happen on the new one. But thought I should point it out.

An yes I couldn't set any shortcuts either way. on nixos.

I just run into this issue. I wasn't able to "override" one shortcut I wanted, so I checked the "Disable Mozilla Firefox's keyboard shortcuts" and since then I have NO shortcuts, I'm unable to set a new ones (says that the keybinding is already in use) or revert back to "at least working state". Just updated to v11.24.0.

Same on the latest 11.24.0. "Disable Mozilla Firefox keyboard shortcuts" is enabled, browser restarted and still this

How to remove/disable all existing shortcuts and assign them from scratch?

Also hitting this on 11.21.0 (on NixOS 24.11)

I am using LMDE 6 had shortcuts assigned was unable to update or add new shortcuts and stupidly removed ones I had assigned and I am unable to add them back, was using Floorp as my primary browser but with this I am thinking about giving Zen a go, might also mention I dual boot Windows 11 and it seems to be working fine with it

I have this bug on Win 11, cannot assign key bindings. so it doesn't seem like Windows version dependent

a small hint: this bug is non-existent in Floorp 12 Beta aka Floorp-Daylight. So if you are fed up with no-hotkey UX like me, you can switch to Beta

So to reiterate: Let's say I want to bind Ctrl-J to opening Downloads instead of searching on Google (default behavior).

These are the options I currently see:

  1. Do nothing and just never press Ctrl-J because it does not do what I want it to do and use Ctrl-Shift-Y (default)
  2. Disable ALL default shortcuts and be unable to use Ctrl-T to open a new tab.
  3. ~~Disable ALL default shortcuts and only set the ones I need~~ (this issue which was closed as not planned)
  4. Disable ALL default shortcuts and learn entirely new ones

I might be missing something here. Could you please describe a use-case where the option to "Disable Mozilla Firefox's keyboards" is useful in the state it is right now?

In Floorp 12, we made it possible to override the default keyboard shortcuts, so we consider this issue resolved.

Ah, "not planned" sends an entirely different message imo.

Thank you for clarifying! This is very much appreciated!

And WHEN will we get that version? Cuz latest i have on linux is 11.27.0. And this effectively stops me from using floorp at all.

For example, i want ctrl+e to focus the addressbar to either search or go to a url. I also want to disable ctrl+q so i dont accidentally quit the browser when i want to close a tab (w and q is next to each others)
