You can try to use the npm version of Arjs - https://www.npmjs.com/package/@ar-js-org/ar.js I already used it in a project and it basically works with the three.js approach.

I just realised that there is a PR for Android lvl >= 31. That may be the issue here!
This was my first thought too, but when I remove three.js I can't no longer create scenes, renderer, etc... e.g.: `scene = new THREEx.Scene();` doesn't work.
