UI hangs and crashes after certain scenarios

Summary

I cannot 100% confirm the root cause of the issue, but I'd like to report it in case others have seen this behavior.

over the many months that I've had Ear Trumpet installed had an occasional issue where the flyout hangs after using it with me being unable to open it afterward via key shortcut or clicking it's icon. quitting Ear Trumpet with task manager and restarting the application does not solve the problem, only fixing itself after a full system restart (perhaps signing out might work, though i have not tried). It was only until today that I realized right-clicking the volume sliders of any application on the flyout appears to cause this hang. per app audio visualizations will stop animating immediately in each slider bar, from there the app may crash, or the flyout permanently disappear. the strangest part is that the app, if left running in this bugged state, may eventually start working again after an hour or so after I had clicked the icon. dismissing the flyout after this causes it to get stuck again.

I may try to reinstall the app and see if that fixes the issue.

Steps to reproduce

  • Launch ear Trumpet
  • Open the flyout
  • Right click on a volume slider knob
  • Program hangs and will either crash or be unable to open the flyout again. quitting and restarting ear trumpet does not fix it. restarting windows fixes the app. waiting for an extended period (about an hour) may cause the flyout to randomly appear after clicking it prior; dismissing it again will cause the app to get stuck again.

EarTrumpet version

2.3.0.0_x86

Windows version

  • Windows 22h2
  • Explorer Patcher has been installed
  • laptop is equipped with Dolby audio and realtech audio chipset (probably has no affect, but figured I should mention)

Likely a bug introduced by Explorer Patcher. Next time this happens, open C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Taskmgr.exe and dump the EarTrumpet.exe process. Then grab a copy of everything in C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319, zip both together, and mail it to [email protected]. Thanks! (We can provide a OneDrive folder for upload via email.)
