Translation view: define default languages

Open TfTHacker opened this issue 3 years ago • 1 comments

Enjoying Obsidian Translate. Thank you for this tool!

It would be useful to assign default languages to the Translation View. So in settings, I can't say Language 1: is English, and Language 2: is Spanish, and Translation View always opens with those as defaults.

Tnx!

Will be shipped with 1.4.0! The settings will be located in the new Functionality tab. Still debating whether or not to attach other functionalities to those settings, so it's possible it may be moved to another location in the future. image

Update: the default target language is now also used for the context menu (when clicking the Translate button, and not any of the languages in the dropdown menu), and shown first when translating a selection or note

Let me know if the functionality works as expected with the 1.4.0 beta. Currently, the setting is used in three places:

  1. When opening a Translation View, source/target language will be set to provided defaults
  2. When selecting some text and right clicking it to open the context menu, you can click on the 'Translate' button without going through the dropdown, to immediately translate with the default target language
  3. When executing a translation command (file/selection), default target language will appear at the top, so you only have to right click to execute the command
  4. Glossary will be opened with the default target language

Going to be closing this issue as the feature has been shipped with 1.4.0. As always, let me know if this feature could be improved!
