Can I Use gamemode Without Doing Any Risky Things?

Sorry if this is a dumb question, I just want to optimize my gaming without doing risky stuff like overclocking, is it possible? Also is there anymore optimizations that is risky (so I will not use them)?

I've been using gamemode since it was first released & it has never done anything harmful to my machine, it automatically changes settings that are safe to use, there's no overclocking involved.
