search results for nonexistent domains are being directed to com.com

This is a rather weird issue. I am using SO with Vivaldi. When I enter a domain name that doesn't exist like asdfasdflasjdlfjlas.com the browser is redirecting this to https://com.com/results?q=asdfasdflasjdlfjlas .

This looks like a search/domain hijacking but I don't expect an open source extension would do something like that so I tried to scan my computer which didn't find anything. I also deleted my profile and made a few tests. Long story short, this only happens when the proxy switch omega extension is enabled.

I added the extension from the chrome store. Any idea where to look?
