For those who are thinking of ending things like him...
Dear Farhan, I read your 10-page long suicide note carefully. I would like to tell you a story of two prisoners at a Nazi concentration camp. They were discussing suicide. One of them asked another prisoner that why he didn't commit suicide like many of his inmates? No human can endure this kind of torture and humiliation. Suicide is the obvious solution. The prisoner replied, "I have a daughter back home. The reason I'm not committing suicide is my daughter."
He then asked the same question to the first prisoner. But why didn't you commit suicide either? That prisoner replied, "I have an unfinished book. I have to complete it. I have got this talent that needs to be proved to the world". Another prisoner overheard this discussion. Later he wrote a world-famous best seller book. He named his book - Man's Search for Meaning. His name is Viktor Frankl. He also had all the reasons to commit suicide. All of his family members were brutally murdered in front of his eyes in the camp. But he didn't commit suicide either. Later as a professional psychologist, he counseled many people like you. If you read his book, I think you would have reconsidered your decision.
In your note, you have said that we live because of happiness! You had no happiness in your life. So there was no reason to live. You even said that if anyone is tortured consistently from dawn to dusk for the rest of his life, he should commit suicide to end his pain. My friend, all of these seem logical at first. But if you think and look carefully, you will find that this is not the case with the human. Say, for example, millions of people suffered in Nazi camps for years. But why they lived? Why they endured this meaningless life. Millions of people around the world are suffering like hell every day. Nine million people die in hunger every year! But why are they choosing to live every morning? On the other hand, millions of your forefathers gave their precious life to make you walk like a free man!
Everyone is living because of someone else. They have a family to look after. Otherwise, they have a materialistic or concrete goal in life, like that guy who wanted to end his book before dying. I have used the word materialistic purposefully. When people have an abstract goal, they will not be able to achieve it. You have said that, is there any meaning to this education and nine to five jobs after that. Life is pointless, according to you. My friend, you failed to find meaning because you were looking for an abstract meaning. If you are pursuing an abstract goal, you will not find it in your life for sure. Happiness is an abstract goal. Every fancy philosophical word that is used as an adjective of happiness is abstract. No one found happiness for once and all! You were knocking on the wrong door. Once a student came to his philosophy professor and asked him, "What is the meaning of life? What is happiness?" The professor replied, "I don't know!" Then he again asked, "So, tell me what is written in those thousands of philosophy books at the library?" The professor smiled and said, "Nothing. They were also trying to find meaning. It is the testament of their journey."
So it would be best if you had tried to find concrete or materialistic goals for your life like a good relationship, a supercar, a beautiful house, publishing a book, founding the next unicorn startup, or a quantum computer.
Finally, I want to say that never show your vulnerability to anyone. Vulnerable people always make this grave mistake. If you show your vulnerability to anyone, they will eventually use it against you. You have experienced it multiple times. Every vulnerable people experienced it. Because life is a race, it's a great game of power exercise. Winning is everything in this game. You can't blame them for being a little bit unfair while trying to win the game! You would have done the same.
I urge everyone who finds his note agreeable or reasonable please read the book written by Viktor Frankl. I have borrowed these aforementioned ideas from him. It's an international bestseller since 1946! But finally, instead of finding meaning in life in "The Office," please try to read some world classics. If you read "The old man and the sea" by Ernest Hemingway, you will find that life always wins. Read 'War and Peace" by Leo Tolstoy. If you read Robert Frost, you will find happiness in the meaningless things around you. I believe the meaning of life can only be found in world classics and holy scriptures. Mark my word; this selfish dopamine junkie generation will suffer greatly for not reading world classics. Those who are thinking about ending things, please read world classics before committing suicide. Before you say that, I figured out the meaning of life... please, please, please read the world classics! You will understand that life is a great play and you are a mere actor. Earth doesn't revolve around you, and life is worth living. You will eventually find the meaning of your life in your own way. In case you do not find the meaning, you will enjoy the journey for sure.
May God be with you, Farhan.
