Feature Request: Copy / Paste Timestamps in Attributes Dialog

Open fitdev opened this issue 5 years ago • 4 comments

It would be really nice if it was possible to copy / paste file / directory / symlink timestamps using Attributes dialog. In particular, it would be nice if it can be done both:

  • Per timestamp kind (Created, Modified, Accessed, Changed)
  • For all available timestamps

Alternatively, perhaps Copy function can be augmented to copy timestamps only w/o overwriting file/dir contents.

There's some immediate workarounds available:

  1. You can use Ctrl+Insert to copy entire dialog field contents, as usual. It is a little inconvenient, I admit, as you would have to copy two fields in order to have complete timestamp.

  2. Alternatively you could use Alt+Insert to copy text from screen. Little inconvenient too, if you are constrained on space or format on the receiving end of the process.

  3. Have a file panel mode that shows DM/DC/DA/DE up to 16(at least) characters in status field, which will provide you with information you can copy from. This is mostly a visual inconvenience, as with no visual aid the stream of dates look illegible.

@AnrDaemon Thank you for the tips. I didn't know about Ctrl+Insert and Alt+Insert. Will try it. Option 3 is really cumbersome though since the formats might not match entirely.

Something like lua:win.SetFileTimes("destination_file", win.GetFileTimes("source_file")) should probably work.

Haven't used Lua at all with FAR. Will need to look into this; thanks for pointing this out.
