I was going to say no because I've avoided mods that provide Optifine-like features with a different format so far (can't expect the RP makers to use the new formats) but then I found out about #73, so I'll consider this eventually.
Edit: the author claims there will be no updates on CF, so maybe I cannot use it after all Edit 2: so far Modrinth mods have been accepted, e.g. Sodium, so I'll try when it gets possible to use
It's a nice looking addition, I don't think it's useless.
Oh, it's not useless, it's probably even usable with the converter right now.
The issue is rather the sustainability (update speed, Modrinth-only) and the point that including the converter itself would have a lot of drawbacks at the moment (see #106). Maybe eventually....
The mod seems to be up to date in Modrinth at the moment so I guess people can test this now with #106 and see if it's really worth it.

There's a PR for the CurseForge releases, using mc-publish
