In some cases e.g. anonymized data, PatientSex might be specified as "O" e.g. consider this series: https://www.visus.com/fileadmin/content/pictures/Downloads/JiveX_DICOME_Viewer/case1.zip

It is necessary to allow for PatientSex to be of values other than just "M" or "F"
