You can get a cheap rtlsdr on ebay or Amazon for around 15$ USD

can you record is on the RTL SDR and then play it on the RPITX? If so, how?

I was able to record and playback a remote control's transmission with this. I just need to figure out how to save the recording to a file so I can organize the different buttons and automate them.
