Privacy: parse local folder for GIFs/images

Currently, GIF and Emoji search seem to be online features. Would it be possible to point the software at local folders for GIFs and images, instead, with fallback to online? A bit more privacy-friendly, and it will still work in 2 years when the API used breaks.
