3.5.1 RM Bandit/ BR1 failsafe and total RC loss

Open SsgDan94 opened this issue 1 year ago • 1 comments

Current Behavior

Since 3.5.1 flash I have been experiencing frequent total connection loss and sporadic RF power settings when set to Dynamic. LQ will instantly drop from 100 to 0 and all telemetry lost/ Backpack WIFI dropped. I Flashed to 3.5.1 specifically to use Backpack WIFI telemetry for an antenna tracker. Will occur 2-3 times during a 30 minute flight at both short and long range. Module will reconnect with RX after a few seconds or after radio power cycle. Was not previously an issue with 3.4.3.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Flash both Module and BR1 to 3.5.1.

  2. Set RF power to Dynamic. Packet rate does not effect issue.

  3. Launch wing in typical flying area/ field where there were no previous issues.

  4. Fly for 10+ minutes

Possible Solution (Not obligatory)

Flash back to 3.5.0 in order to still use backpack for MFD Mini Crossbow. Not tested; this issue may also persist in 3.5.0.

Details

I tested this issue with Backpack turned OFF and still lost connection multiple times. Thankfully failsafe turned my wing back.

Your Environment

AR WING PRO flown in same flying area where I did not have any issues before.

  • TX hardware: RM Bandit Micro
  • RX hardware: RM BR1
  • Handset model: RM Boxer
  • OpenTX version; EdgeTX 2.8.4
  • ExpressLRS version (TX & RX MUST MATCH): 3.5.1
  • Packet Rate: 50 and 100 tested
  • Telemetry Ratio: 1:2 and 1:4
  • user_defines:

Ive tested this with a Bandit and BAYCK Rx (same target as the BR1), 50Hz 1:2. Used dyn power and a attenuator to crash the signal.

Looked good sitting on the bench. Then I walked around forcing dyn power to make a number of power changes. No issue with either.

Were you able to confirm the problem with 3.5.0?

Do you mind flashing again but select erase before flashing? If you have a bad flash this will clear everything and reflash.

Thank you for the response. So, I deleted/ reflashed TX/ backpack/ RX. Today while running a bench test, I suddenly realized that the LQ drops from 100 to 0 anytime I use VTX administrator to change output power. I restarted and tested this multiple times and have concluded that VTX admin is causing the connection to drop. Not sure why, I supposed this could have many causes beyond the TX/ TX

*I would like to add that only LQ drops, I think technically it’s still connected since RSSI is still up near -80-90

@SsgDan94 any feedback on this? The PR mentioned was merged into 3.5.2 and later.
