Fix the broken Kafka e2e test (Scala)

The Scala e2e test in the Kafka module is currently ignored and probably doesn't work as we haven't been maintaining it. We would like it to work.

@williewheeler I'd like to pick this one. As far as I checked, there are some class loading issues that could be solved by #257. Should I wait for that PR to be merged first before working on this?

Hi @jeqo. Thanks--would love to have you work on this. Yeah, let me wrap up #257 first. That may take a day or two as I'm juggling a bit right now.
