Disabling monitor only moves its arrangement

When disabling the middle of my three monitors, it flashes black, then comes back with all windows cleared off of it. Looking in the display settings, it also has moved to the right most position.

I'm running 10.10.5

I notice the same as well.

Is there a way to turn off the mac's builtin display to save some energy while its disabled? That would be neat. And some way to automatically to restore the windows to the builtin display if the external monitors have been disconnected or powered off...
