Copy Events

Would be nice if one could copy events to a certain date.

More nicely, an event could be copied or moved by dragging

In my opinion, being able to "copy" events is really, really useful, even if one uses just one calendar: Many events are "much like" past events, even if they are not periodical events. They either share the same set of attendees, the same title, place, time, etc. So in my opinion this is not a duplicate of #62, #80 or #101.

Therefore, it would be very useful to add a "copy event" button to the event view. Of course, the user will edit some parts of the new, copied event, so the edit event view should open automatically after copying (otherwise it would be a plain duplicate which should be automatically discarded).

Buisness Calendar has this feature. DigiCal Calendar has it, too. When using Business Calendar, I create an estimated 50 % of my new events using the "copy event" function. Actually, this is the only feature that I really miss in etar compared to its competitors/alternatives.

+1 a needed feature

I liked using aCalendar back then and aCalendar had this ability. It was great since I work a job with shifts (not a fixed monday-friday job) and I would just simply copy my events and create new ones and change the date and time, and not need to enter anything else.

Please add this feature

Like @rauferd I also use BusinessCalendar. Having cut all ties to Google on my devices (running LineageOS with F-Droid), I'm looking to replace the last remains – and this is a core feature for me I regularly use. Example, when seeing your doctor/dentist, it's often that a second appointment has to be scheduled. Sooo easy just tap-and-holding the current one, select "copy", select the ned date/time – and all else (description, alerts etc.) simply come along.

Drag'n'drop should be left to #80 however (moving an appointment). That's what most people would expect by dragging and dropping: moving, not duplicating. Although: on drop there could be a popup asking whether to copy or move, then it would be a good thing.

I am also interested in this feature. Adding a "save as copy" or "save as new" button on editing item should be well for me

I need this as well. Changing the date on past events (current workaround) destroys the record, and is less useful.

I would also like to see this feature implemented. I can start looking into it. A first basic implementation could follow @rauferd proposal:

  • add a Copy event button to event_info_title_bar.xml layout that copy the events (i.e. new UID) and opens it for edition.

  • check that the user effectively changes start or end time, i.e. does not accidentally create a duplicate.

I'm super happy to hear this got done! Yay! @szaimen is quite right with the party emojis. I'm curious when this will hit F-droid, as I'm eager to use it (and get rid of the otherwise redundant Simple Calendar, which I keep only for this one feature) but I would rather not side load something that is in F-droid if it's going there soon.

Again, well done to everyone involved! Thanks so much!
