Feature request: Add alarm as reminder
One huge problem of all calendars I have ever tried on android is the lack of an option to set an alarm to go off for a specified event, rather than a notification which is just too easy to miss most of the time. Maybe it's me missing something but when creating a new event, in section reminders there is two dropdowns: one with the time to remind and the other with only option notification. It seems just too obvious to have an alarm option, maybe I don't have some app installed? Anyhow thank you for the great work so far!
Please describe the difference between alarm and reminder. In terms of RFC 5545 alarm and reminder is the same. Do you mean alarm in Android, set in the clock app vs. notification?
The alarm type could also be email.
Do you mean with alarm going off an alarm going on?
Does the Calendar Notification app https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.github.quarck.calnotify/ offer the necessary settings?
I can't remeber that app in particular, but tried a bunch a while ago and never found anything practical. Will test it when I can. By alarm I mean like the alarm clock app. Somethingthat will ring for like 10 minutes until I stop it or snooze it. This basic feature seems to be missing from most calendar apps on android.

For the flash of a subsecond, right after I installed etar, I thought I have seen "alarm" in the select, but now, there is only "notification/benachrichtigung" - which is much too little noticeable for me; I need calendar to make some real noise
I looked at calnotify from above, but an extra background service seems overkill, doesnt it?
PS: Meanwhile I found, etar can notify/sound repeatedly - maybe that is all I whished for, time will tell…
Hi, Thanks for that useful application. I second that request, sound alarms would be a big plus. When I choose to have a reminder there is a menu for the type of notification: only a simple "popup" reminder is available ; I wish there was a "sound alarm" also there.
Recently I get (with up to date f-droid build) an audible subsecond "pling". It seems to be a (missing) feature of the android base system, that there are no "calendar notifications" that are harder to miss. You know, everybody has her smartphone always close and wipes the screen at least once every five minutes. So maybe the app mentioned above is indeed the (only) way to go for us dinosaurs?

I also saw that.
When creating an event while no calendar is added to Etar, one can choose 4 things from the notification dropdown, one of them is Alarm.
I thought that was great, since I'm looking for that as well. But after adding a "local calendar", I now only have Notification in the dropdown, and Alarm is gone.
What does that feature do, and how do I get it back?
(Btw, saving a new event while no calendar is selected just silently discards all data you've input -- this is bad UX.)
