Permission node to allow players to use color codes (even hex) when renaming items on an anvil
Feature description
I would like to suggest adding another color code-related permission node, this time to allow players to use color codes on an anvil. Ideally, it would use the same format as colored chat (& for vanilla codes, &# for RGB codes), maybe even bold, underlined, etc.
I understand that it's not just about a permission node, it will require some coding to parse the entered code into a colored text, as in vanilla, it's not possible. Even more so when considering that the new name is displayed on the output item ever before the item is clicked and the modification applied.
If it makes sense, it would also be beneficial if it was split the same way as the existing color permissions for chat (basic colors, rgb, magic).
How the feature is useful
It's a cosmetic enhancement, same as colored chat, mail, signs and nicks. Colored names on items are supported in vanilla, but only via commands. This would open the same possibilities to regular players on servers. It could be used as a perk, etc.
Thank you!
I feel like if you're just renaming items, then /itemname would be more useful (which has support for color code permissions). The name field in the anvil is really limited and not really designed for color codes and, to my knowledge, can't easily be increased.
That's understandable. I don't have too much insight into the technical limitations of the anvil UI, so I can imagine it's not as easy as it looks. /itemname is another possibility, although it's not as "immersive" as using the anvil directly. Plus it doesn't cost xp levels and overall feels more like an OP tool. I found a plugin (AnvilColors) which implements this, so it's not a pressing issue. However, after your comment about the name field, I'm curious to see its limits and shortcomings.
Thank you for your quick reaction, I will leave the status of this ticket up to you :)
