Patching in a HA environment

How do the DSC script handle a HA environment? Eg. I have 2x ArcGIS GIS Servers, 2x Portal service (A/P), 2x Datastore servers (A/P), 2x Webservers with webadaptors. My requirement is 99.9% uptime.

If I start patching, or even doing an upgrade of the environment, do the PowerShell scripts upgrade/patch each GIS Server machine individually, failing over the DS and Portal to their passive machines, then once the active machines are done, failing back to them and upgrading and patching the passive machines, so that there is no real disruption of service?
