merge outstanding ⮡ tarent/DTAG-LLCTO/AML changes

This supercedes my older PR but includes all relevant changes from it.

• whitespace fixes
• file deduplication, using #include (because Ingemar’s git client doesn’t support symbolic links)
• better explained and actually tested build instructions and other documentation improvements such as more links
• use correct *_MAX constant to initialise minT_ntp
• do not commit generated files, especially binaries, to the repository
