State what versions are maintained

Versions maintained are not really stated today. We should document the lowest maintained version and after some discussions, the proposed lowest version to maintain is 4.x.x (at the time of writing this issue).

Updates should be made to CONTRIBUTING and COMPATIBILTY docs.
